What happens during a Clarke & Roskrow eye examination?
Our private eye examinations are designed to be thorough, relaxed, and highly personalised. During your visit, your optometrist will carefully assess your vision and overall eye health using modern diagnostic technology, including Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scans as standard.
We also take time to understand how you use your eyes day-to-day. Whether that’s work, driving, reading, screens, or hobbies, we recommend the most suitable optical solutions for your lifestyle.

How long does an eye examination take?
Our private eye examinations typically last around 50 minutes, which is around twice as long as the typical high-street eye test. This allows us the time needed to properly assess your eyes and answer any questions you may have.
Many clients tell us they appreciate the relaxed and unhurried approach compared with the quicker eye tests often offered on the high street.
How often should I have an eye test?
For most adults, we recommend having an eye examination every two years.
However, depending on your prescription, eye health, or age, your optometrist may recommend more frequent visits to keep your vision and eye health properly monitored through regular professional eye exams.
Do I need an eye test if my vision seems fine?
Yes. Eye examinations check much more than simply whether you need glasses.
A professional eye exam can detect early signs of eye conditions and sometimes wider health issues before symptoms appear, which is why regular eye examinations are an important part of looking after your long-term health.
I get my sight-test for free on the NHS; can I have an NHS Sight-Test with you?
We have been a fully-private practice since 2021 and no longer offer NHS Sight-Tests, which only provide for a basic level of clinical care and time. As a modern, forward-thinking 21st century optical practice, this was something we no longer felt comfortable offering. Instead, we prefer all of our clients to benefit from the highest level of clinical care with our Advanced Eye Examination, and just £7.50/month covers all this and more!
If you are eligible for and would prefer to have a basic NHS Sight-Test there are 5 optical stores in town who still provide NHS Sight-Tests.
Do you do sight-tests & glasses for children?
We’re more than happy to look after your child’s/children’s eyes. Children’s eyecare isn’t a big part of our business, with most of our clients being aged 40-years and upwards, but we can certainly help children/youngsters to see better, look better and feel better in glasses.
We have Family Membership on the EyeCare Plan or you can choose to pay for your child’s consultations on a pay-per-visit basis.
Children in full-time education up to the age of 18-years are eligible for an NHS Sight-Test, so if you would prefer to have an NHS Sight-Test the other 5 optical stores in Market Harborough can provide this, as well as help towards the cost of glasses through the NHS Optical Voucher scheme.
