Our eye examinations from Anthony are first class. I have an eye problem but nothing is too much trouble and you always feel as if a thorough test has been done. My wife had to have new specs and Tina was very knowledgeable about what frames would suit and took considerable time and care in choosing the frames which looked best. Excellent customer care. Excellent serivce. Well looked after by Tina who was brilliant at suggesting glasses and honest abput what suited / did not look so good! Really pleased I took the 'leap' and chose to go to Clarke & Roskrow. Fabulous eyewear. Thank you so much. I will be back! And I did go back! July/Aug 2026 I cannot recommend C&R more highly. The eye test/examination very in depth...dud not feel rushed, had a lovely chat whilst my eyes were examined. No waiting. Only 1 room! Very calm, orderly and professional. Then on to Tina, who has, over the years been so helpful with the choice of specs. This year it was sunglasses and, again, Tina knows what suits and what doesn't. She also takes time to get to the know the person...she knows my likes/dislikes, colourways etc. She makes choosing eyewear fun. Thank you!

I had a brilliant experience at Clarke & Roskrow. I’d been struggling to find a pair of glasses that really suited me after visiting loads of other places—nothing quite felt right. I wanted something a bit different, but not too “out there.” Tina was amazing. She quickly picked out several pairs that I genuinely loved, which honestly made the decision harder—but in a good way! She then guided me through choosing the right one, and I couldn’t be happier with the result. The whole experience was fantastic from start to finish. Even the eye test gave me real confidence that I was getting the right prescription. I’d definitely recommend Clarke & Roskrow—easily the best opticians in the area.

I’ve worn glasses most of my life and in recent years I have just settled for ones that were “good enough.” I now realise how much I have been missing. It seems mad now to be parsimonious about something I wear on my face every single day. Firstly the care and attention from Andy during the very thorough eye examination was immensely reassuring, I appreciated not being rushed. It was great choosing frames with Bhav, I felt like a kid in a sweet shop, he was brilliant and I had so much fun. What I didn’t expect was the subtle improvement in vision, these varifocals are like driving a Porsch instead of a Ka. The two pairs I bought spark joy daily: because they are fabulous, comfortable and effective. And yes, of course I will be back.

When you enter the premises it immediately feels good, and you relax. All the staff are friendly and approachable, and the coffee is to die for!! I am amazed at the attention to detail from everybody, particularly Anthony who goes the extra mile to make sure you are satisfied . I have had a fantastic experience with the Clarke and Roskrow team recently, having felt quite frustrated in the past with the overall experience at high street opticians. My C&R styling appointment was with Tina, who took the time to understand what I wanted and felt comfortable with, and helped me to make sense of the options out there. Where do I start ! I was so underwhelmed with the usual High St choices of eye wear, that after some research, I made an appointment to see C&R. My whole experience from start to finish was 1st class. Bhav was so professional, a real friendly guy, & knew instantly I was after something ‘quirky & different’. Fantastic customer experience & amazing glasses & sunglasses frame options 😍 Tina was fantastic with my personal styling appointment to find something new after having the same bog standard glasses for the last 7years…. It was great fun trying on different styles, colours & materials & I never would have thought I’d walk away with orange glasses 🍊 🤓 I absolutely love them! Have subsequently been back for another pair (green & pink!) & some subscription sunglasses - I think it might be the start of a collection…. Can’t recommend them enough, a totally wonderful team 🤩

My eye test was long over due and I had decided that as I enjoy wearing glasses, that my next pair of glasses were to be stylish and individual. Following research into a number of independent local opticians, I chose Clarke & Roskrow and was not disappointed by the quality of service provided. The eye examination was the most thorough that I have ever experienced during my 35 years of wearing spectacles. This was then followed by a personalised styling session provided by Bhav. After a friendly informal chat, Bhav's styling expertise was evident and he selected a range of styles for me to try on. The whole experience of having someone choose frames to suit my colouring and face shape was exciting, and although it proved difficult to narrow it down, I was delighted with my frames. I returned to the shop yesterday to pick up my new spectacles and I am looking forward to wearing them an. Once again Bhav took time to fit the glasses and to explain how to look after them, when to get them serviced and to return if I encountered any issues with them. Overall, although an expensive purchase I will certainly recommend and continue to use Clarke & Roskrow for future purchases! Elaine Portch

After a 10 year flirtation with a "High Street" optician I have gone back Clarke and Roskow in Church Street. I am delighted with my new glasses (weighing only 11 grams) so I hope I will not have to go in every two months for repairs to make them wearable as I had to do with the other optician. It was like going home and they had my records from 30 years ago. And they gave me a box of chocolates with my new specs!

Got a fabulous birthday present recently. Some Maui Jim shades with bifocals for reading in the sun. Just back from southern Spain where I barely took them off. Colours so much more vivid and they look well cool too; muchas graciais senors!!
