Many thanks to those of you who took part in our January “Healthy Eyes Month” last month, helping us to raise £1,000 for Guide Dogs through the proceeds from our Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scan. Not only were you investing in your eye health by having the OCT scan but also you helped us achieve our target of raising £1,000 to help train a Guide Dog puppy!
It costs almost £45,000 to train a Guide Dog puppy (about two years from birth to “graduation”) and then about £12,000 per year to maintain and support the working partnership between the guide dog and their handler, so your £1,000 will be a much needed contribution to this important service for people living with sight-loss, so thanks again to you all for helping us achieve this donation. We’ll be contacting Guide Dogs soon and hopefully we’ll be able to announce which Guide Dog puppy we’ll be helping to train/sponsor!
